Hail damage assessment
Core cuts, photos and written reports for insurers.
Service area: Spruce Grove and Stony Plain
Both towns sat in the path of the 2019 hailstorm. Hail-ready roofs and solid documentation matter here.
Local roofing
Commercial roofing in Spruce Grove and Stony Plain starts with hail. In August 2019, a hailstorm caused about $90 million in insured damage across west Edmonton, Spruce Grove and Stony Plain. Many commercial roofs in both towns were repaired or replaced afterward, and some still carry damage that was never properly assessed.
Rain Roofing works on commercial and light industrial buildings in both communities: retail, offices, shops and public buildings along Hwy 16A and in each town's business areas.

Hail damage on a flat roof is easy to miss from the ground and often hard to see on the roof itself. On SBS, hail can knock granules loose and bruise the membrane underneath. On single-ply, it can crack or puncture the sheet, especially in cold weather or on older membranes. On any roof, it can crush insulation and dent metal flashings and rooftop units.
The damage doesn't always leak right away. A bruised membrane can hold for a season or two and then fail through freeze-thaw, long after the insurance claim window has closed.

After a hailstorm, the roof needs to be inspected and documented while the evidence is fresh. We provide what an adjuster needs to assess the claim:
SBS 2-ply is the regional workhorse partly because of its hail and puncture resistance. Thicker cap sheets and cover boards under the membrane add more protection. On single-ply roofs, thicker membranes and a cover board help. Ask about the hail rating of any system you are considering, and check whether the warranty covers hail.
The roof is only part of the exposure. Skylights, rooftop unit coils and metal flashings take the same hits. On a replacement we look at all of them: impact-resistant skylight domes, heavier edge metal where it makes sense, and a note to your mechanical contractor if the units would benefit from hail guards. Many roofs replaced after 2019 are now several years into their warranties, so regular inspections keep those warranties in good standing.
Spruce Grove and Stony Plain have retail, offices, light industrial shops and public buildings, many along Hwy 16A and in each town's business areas. Outside of hail, the issues are typical for the region: ponding, freeze-thaw at flashings and leaks around rooftop units.
Both towns are a short drive west of Edmonton. Our 24/7 emergency line covers them, with crews on site within 4 hours for active leaks. After a major storm, we prioritize maintenance clients and active leaks first.
Questions
It is worth an inspection. Hail-bruised membranes can hold for years and then fail through freeze-thaw. A core cut and inspection will show whether the membrane or insulation was damaged.
As soon as you can. Fresh damage is easier to document, and most insurance policies have time limits on claims. We aim to inspect within a few days of a major storm.
Yes. We provide the documentation and scope the adjuster needs and can meet them on the roof. The claim itself stays between you and your insurer.
SBS 2-ply with a cover board is one of the most hail-resistant options in the region. Thicker single-ply membranes over a cover board also perform well. We can explain the trade-offs for your building.
